Supporting Resilient Food Systems
Our core advocacy activities promoting understanding of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), Gene Editing (GE)
and Gene Drives are focused on the potential which these agricultural biotechnology products can have, when used to support agricultural communities to diversify their
farming practices and to introduce improved varieties of crops. We also encourage agricultural communities to
remain cognizant of their ecological responsibilities, even as they strive to increase synthetic or organic inputs to enhance productivity.
Accelerating Climate Action
Accelerating Climate Action requires a delicate balance of narratives on mitigation (global north focus), adaptation, loss and damage (global south focus). Through a strategic partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Alliance for Science can nimbly navigate between critical opinion shapers, thought leaders and decision makers on global climate policy development and implementation.
The Alliance for Science is a member of the Communication and Campaigns Working Group on Adaptation, formed in April 2023 and led by Powershift Africa, to develop and promote unified adaptation narratives and messaging
by providing communication and media support to the BMGF network. The emphasis of this group remains on elevating adaptation in the climate discourse and to influence adaptation debates and outcomes.
Strengthening Global Health Systems
The Global Pandemic in 2019 highlighted the importance of clear powerful communications to save lives. Lessons learned during that period are being dissipated but the Alliance for Science is determined to harness best
practices around the role of health communications to strengthen anticipatory actions for global health and ultimately bolster health systems, particularly in the global south
